Complete owner history since new (many folders of receipts):

Original European delivery: Gothenburg Sweden on August 13, 1968 (Portland, OR)

Second Owner: July 1970 (State College, PA)

Third Owner: 1981 (Reston, VA) minor LR qtr damaged

Fourth Owner: 1985 (Richmond, VA) major restoration

Fifth Owner: Jun 2006 (Chandler, AZ) collector

Sixth Owner: Feb 2008 (Suwanee, GA) current

The primary reason for the purchase by the current owner was to have a second Volvo 1800 to enter into a vintage rally to be conducted in Virginia in September of 2008. The adventure of this rally was captured in an article written in the January / February 2009 issue of Rolling Magazine, the magazine of the Volvo Club of America.

Per the current owner … “The car has been a great car. Always starts up right away. The engine runs great with lots of power for a vintage car with two carburetors. I try to drive all my old cars on a regular basis and this one is very fun to drive and since my other 1800 does not have A/C this is the preferred summer driver of the 1800’s. The sale of this 1800 will allow greater attention to the full restoration of my 1967 Volvo 1800.”

Issues noted by current owner:

There was a small “rally incident” last year which caused a small chip in the paint near the right front wheel well. This brought to my attention a small crack near the same spot. It appears there is some body putty work in this area. No attempt has been made to repair it as it is such a small area.

Some small bubbles along the rocker panel. I have pressed on the bubbles and they are very firm which seems to indicate they may be poor finish work before the last paint job, not rust forming under the paint.

A small rust hole under the passenger seat bracket.

The carpet around the dead man’s rest near the clutch pedal was cut away as the carpet piping was interfering with the clutch pedal.

Next steps:

This car is not perfect. The car looks very good, is very sound mechanically and runs great. All the running gear has been rebuilt somewhere along the way so there is really nothing needing attention.

If desired, these are the current things to do to take this car to the next level.

Replace the carpet.

Replace the door panels.

New set of shocks that are stiffer to enhance the handling a bit further.

Eventually correct some of the minor body issues noted above.

Closing comments:  This is a nice, above average, driver quality car in a striking, desirable and rare color. The best part is all the typical upgrades to make the car more fun to drive and more reliable are already done. It would feel at home at any vintage car rally or show.
